7 Keys To Make Your Mark In Marketing

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Thomas Murrell A career in marketing is one of the most personally and financially satisfying. The marketing profession has seen enormous growth in both size, status and remuneration in recent years. But what can you do to make your mark if you have just secured a new job in marketing? If you are either an aspiring or experienced marketer, making a difference in a new job in a competitive, crowded or noisy marketplace can be difficult. So what should you do in the first 90-days in the new job when those who hired you will be judging your personal performance? Here are 7 Tips For Success in Maximising Your Marketing Effort: 1. Clarify your mission What is your role and responsibility within the organisation? What can you control and what is out of your direct sphere of influence? Focus on areas where you can make a difference! 2. Have a plan and set some goals and strategies for the next 90 days. Make sure your goals are SMART - Specific, Measurable, Attractive, Realistic and Time-Framed and they are aligned with the vision, mission and objectives of the new company you are working for. 3. Know your strengths and build on these. What are you good at? Branding, positioning, relationships, Public Relations, or sponsorship? Work to your strengths and focus on the 80/20 rule. Eighty per cent of your effort will provide maximum return on investment for time and money. Chasing after perfection and the final 20 per cent will be a waste of time, money and effort. 4. Identify and talk to your customers. Everyone knows the importance of market research. But it doesn’t have to be expensive. Many coaches and consultants use the following strategy and it is working well for me. Listening to an online interview with fellow speaker Matt Church CSP reinforced for me the impact of this simple yet powerful technique. Ask prospects three questions - what is keeping them awake at night, what is the cause of this and what is the solution? Make sure your marketing efforts focus on the solution. 5. Always provide three options when providing a solution. One of my personal mentors, Alan Weiss taught me the value of this strategy. I’ve implemented it in my business and it has made a huge difference because it gives people a choice to suit their circumstances. 6. Market on value not price. Again more wise wisdom from Weiss distilled into my own words. Never discount. Always look to add value as a key differentiator. Ask what value can we add to our customers? 7. Let people know about your product or service using consistent messages, symbols and branding in all marketing communications. It is more important to be clear and consistent than original. Put these seven secrets into practice and your marketing career will soon take off. But don’t forget to tell others of your success to increase your visibility within and external to the organisation you work for. Nothing builds a success spiral faster than telling others about the difference marketing has made to the growth of an organisation. Want help cracking Da Media Code? Digital Or Film Photography

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Michael Colucci The popularity of digital cameras may have enjoyed amazing increase but film has still an important part to play in photography and will continue to be important for some time, a few years at the least. Film has many advantages that photographers continue to recognize. Major players in the production of film like Kodak is still putting into it millions though experts all agree that digital film will reign supreme in the near future. These are the reasons though why some photographers prefer film over digital: 1) Facilities and Investment Ordinary people, not only photographers, have invested considerably in photographic equipments that use film. Cameras and lenses still have capabilities that digital photography cannot match. Compared with a high-end professional 35mm camera, a digital camera still lacks facilities that only the traditional camera can provide. A photographer who decides to switch to digital may find himself spending big especially if his lenses, flashes and other accessories are not compatible with a new digital system. 2) Wide Angle The absence of extreme wide-angle lenses and a slow start-up time are two of the most disadvantages of even the best digital cameras. 35mm cameras modifies to digital bodies usually employ a CCD image sensor that is smaller, usually around 245mm x 16mm) as opposed to the 36mm x 24mm x 35mm film that results to a narrow angle. Photographers who are fans of wide angles may find the traditional 35mm more of their liking. 3) Action Film cameras also offer an advantage during fast-changing and unpredictable photography scenarios. Unlike digital camera that uses batteries than can ran out in the most unexpected time, a 35mm camera can be easily switched on and ready for use whenever you need take a shot. Moreover, digital cameras usually take several seconds before you can use it which obviously is a disadvantage for photographers who wants to capture actions which cant be repeated anymore. 4) Tough Conditions Film cameras are also sturdier equipments than their digital counterparts and can withstand harsh conditions that photography may demand in the line of work. Count on film to be more reliable than digital especially when your are working in a not-so-good weather conditions. 5) Comparing Costs When it comes to cost, film and digital advantages and disadvantages vary considerably depending on the usage. A photographer with a film budget amounting to thousands of dollars in one year may find digital camera more practical. But if you are not a busy photographer, your income may not defray the cost of going digital. 5 Creative Ways to Propose Marriage

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Dawn Arkin You have made the decision to ask your girlfriend to be your wife. You bought a ring and are ready to take the plunge. But now you are wondering how should you do it? When you plan your proposal, take your bride-to-be’s personality as well as your own into consideration before you decide on anything. If your girlfriend is a quiet person, don’t plan a location that is public and noisy. There are many different ways to ask the woman you love to marry you. What you need to do is find the way that is right for the both of you. Here are some suggestions for memorable marriage proposals. A Picnic Lunch Buy a picnic hamper and pack a romantic lunch. Fruit, cheese, bread and wine all help to enhance the romantic feel of this marriage proposal. Finish your lunch with chocolate covered strawberries, with the engagement ring and proposal being the final course. A Mystery Trail Leave a path for your sweetheart to follow. Chose something romantic, like rose petals or candles. Leave a trail from the front door throughout the house. At different places leave flowers, chocolates, and champagne for your sweetie to find. At the end of the trail is where you will be, ring in hand. A Puzzling Time If your sweetie is a jigsaw puzzle lover, buy a blank jigsaw puzzle and write will you marry me on it. Cook her dinner, or order a meal from your favorite restaurant. After the dessert, give her the puzzle in a beautifully wrapped box and be prepared kneel and pop the question when she finishes it. Restaurant Proposals Take your sweetie to the restaurant you had your first date. If you call ahead most restaurants are more than happy to help you plan your proposal and might even be willing to write your question on a plate, or include it in the dessert menu. A Christmas Proposal At Christmas time wrap the engagement ring in a small box. Then place it in a larger box and wrap that as well. Keep doing this until the present is large enough to fool your sweetie. Do not put this gift under the tree, but instead hide somewhere in the house. After you two finish unwrapping your presents go and get this one. As she unwraps the gift you should be prepared to kneel down and ask her to marry you. You want to make your first proposal special. Finding a creative way to ask the one you love to spend her life with you will make it be a moment to remember and tell your grandchildren about. So How Big Is The UK Financial Market?

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Tosif Patel While we all come across loans of some kind through our lives, including mortgages, overdraft, personal loans, business loans, credit cards, etc do we really know how big the market is? How much money actually changes hands on a monthly basis? You would be surprised at the massive amounts involved, which are covered in a summary of the British Bankers Association report for October 2006 (www.bba.org.uk). The month of October was potential a tricky month for the financial markets as interest rates were almost certainly going to rise (and did) increasing the cost of lending in a second. This seems to have had little impact on market activity which is covered below :- Total lending (loans, etc) to the Private Sector showed a new increase of some 11.8 billion (+0.9%) to 1,216 billion. This is in comparison to the previous months increase of 9.6 billion. Even as the traditional quiet Christmas period approached, net mortgage lending showed a further increase, which is a reflection of the still strong property market. Net mortgage lending rose by a massive 5.5 billion for October, which was slightly up on the previous months already high figure. Overall, unsecured personal lending rose in October, with Loan and Overdraft lending rising by 0.8 billion, while credit card borrowing actually fell by 0.4 billion (there will be a seasonal rise as we approach Christmas). The above figures will give you an idea of the size of the Financial Industry in the UK, and the seemingly inexhaustible demand for further lending for mortgages, overdrafts, etc. Despite the recent rise in UK interest rates, and the seemingly inevitable further increases in early 2007 the UK consumer seems to be oblivious to the real situation. While there has always been major competition on the high street, the traditional clearing banks and specialist financial companies are now coming under pressure from the retail giants such as Tesco (www.tesco.com) who have the capacity to offer their customers add-on financial services. The UK consumer is notoriously lazy, with many of us still not checking out the competition before buying although this is starting to change due to the increased access to the internet. This increased competition has forced many financial companies to go for volume sales at lower profit margins, which is a very dangerous game if business were ever to slow, or the UK economy go into reverse. As in so many areas of retail, the impact of companies such as Tesco is having a real long term impact. Facelift vs. Mini-Facelift

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Sara Goldstein As you age, the skin and fat in your face can begin to get loose, sag, and hang. This loose skin and excess fat can cause wrinkles, lines, and creases. The overall effect makes you look much older than you actually are. I perform facelifts and mini-facelifts to correct many of the signs of aging people are suffering from, says Dr. Douglas Hendricks in Newport Beach, California. Depending on how extensive a patient wants their results to be, a mini-facelift may fulfill their expectations better than a normal face-lift. For years, people have been resorting to facelifts in order to revitalize their appearance and regain the youthful appearance they once had. Now, mini-facelifts are being performed on people as a way to target specific areas of the face that they are unsatisfied with. A facelift is performed to correct excess skin and fat that develops around the jowls, cheeks, and neck. Facelifts are usually performed on older individuals that are unhappy with the creases that have developed in their face. Facelifts are performed by making incisions within the hairline. First, the skin is separated from other tissues, then excess skin and fat is removed, and the skin is pulled back. The plastic surgeon will make sure the skin is not pulled too tightly or over stretched. After the facelift, there are far less creases, and your face will look years younger. Mini-facelifts are a newer form of facelift that many younger people are taking advantage of in order to correct the problems they have with their face. Rather than having an extensive facelift performed later in life, people that are even in their thirties are having mini-facelifts performed to correct specific problems they have with their face. Mini-facelifts are different than traditional facelifts because they are performed with fewer and smaller incisions. A mini-facelift is an ideal option for someone that has one or two problem areas, but does not need their entire face treated. The best way to determine if a mini-facelift or a traditional facelift is right for you is to schedule an initial consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon near you. During your initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will go over each procedure with you and help you make a decision. I listen to may patients to determine exactly what results they would like to see and what they would like to correct, says Dr. Hendricks. Afterward, I can suggest a plastic surgery option that will correct their problems. Contact an experienced plastic surgeon near you if you are considering either a mini-facelift or a traditional facelift. The Miracle Diet Drug that Fen Phen Attorneys Now Know is No Miracle

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By N. Johnson After the miracle diet drug, Fen Phen, was introduced in the early 90s, nearly 6.5 million people consumed the drug. The reason for such a large consumption was the immediate weight loss associated with the drug. However, after ties between Fen Phen and the fatal Primary Pulmonary Hypertension were established, American Home Products removed the drug from the market in mid September of 97. While Fen Phen supporters did not want to believe the horrible side effects that would befall some, they soon came to the realization that the drug was quite harmful. Soon after Fen Phen was pulled from American shelves, evidence implicating AHP of withholding serious knowledge of the harmful side effects the drug would cause came to light. Since millions of people had taken the diet drug Fen Phen, a large percentage of these people were experiencing drastic side effects, and in some cases even death. Many people say they would pay any price to lose weight. However, death was not the price they wanted to pay. A large number of the lawsuits filed in state court were filed because of the different effects Fen Phen caused on peoples health. The people filing suit were seeking some type of compensation for the rising medical bills they were incurring. In late 1997, every single federal Fen Phen case was transferred to the United States District Court. This event started a series of nationwide Fen Phen settlements. In mid-November of 99, preliminary approval was given to the settlement class. In order to find that the agreement reached in the settlement was fair, the district court held a hearing. In August of 2000, the settlement agreement was awarded approval. Thus creating the American Home Products Settlement Trust. After attempts to overturn the courts ruling, the AHP gave in to the settlement. If you are a patient who has suffered from PPH (Primary Pulmonary Hypertension) caused by the diet drug Fen Phen, then you should know that you are not part of the settlement agreement with AHP. All Primary Pulmonary Hypertension patients are required to file independent lawsuits to make any legal claim. Face Painting Patterns

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Pauline Keogh We all need a little help when starting out, some guidance and handy tips from those who have had experience. Face painting, although fun, can be very daunting. We find that its sometimes difficult to create a design on a face from scratch, looking blankly without inspiration; similar to an artist staring at a blank canvas not knowing what to paint what face painting patterns to use. All you need is to be able to paint on a face confidently, and sometimes we need help or a guide to start us off. The answer is simple, similar to using a pattern to sew a dress; you can use face painting patterns to help paint a design. Using these face painting patterns as an exact copy or just as a base that you can add your own flare or style too. If you are planning to face paint at a party or fete, its a good idea to have your face painting patterns or designs that you are confident with. These patterns can be displayed using a drawing or a photo of a face you have already painted on. Face painting patterns can also be created by you. Once you have used others you may find a desire to create your own face painting design. To make a simple face painting pattern you must start with a face outline: To create a face, you need to draw lines to dissect the oval. This will enable you to know where to place your nose, eyes and mouth. -Draw an oval. -Draw a faint vertical line down the center of the oval, then another line horizontally across the center. (An oval with a cross through the middle) -Now draw two faint lines equally spaced, one above the center line and then another below. (One vertical line and three horizontals lines) -Nostrils placed just below the center line, eyebrows in the top line and the middle of the lips on the lower line. Now you have you template you can photocopy this or use tracing paper over the top to create your own face painting patterns. Some people like to have the outlines of the design and then creating the color and shading on the actual face, others like to experiment with color and variety of color with the same design. Perfecting the idea on paper first rather than getting someone to sit for hours while you paint, wipe and re-apply. Using a pattern on paper is also cost effective, since you can fit over 6 designs on one piece of paper, and only having to worry about the cost of crayons, pencils, pens, or acrylic paints, instead of your fabulous face paints. The only objective that can be said about creating face painting patterns is to have fun. Enjoy trying to create your own style, ideas and designs. Any form of art can be frustrating, but it also can be very rewarding when that one face painting patterns turns out exactly the way you imagine it only better. Tooth Whitening

Friday, March 14th, 2008

By Jason Gluckman Tooth whitening is the process by which the yellowish layer of teeth is removed to give pearly white teeth. The process lightens the natural color of the yellowish teeth without removing any of the tooth surfaces, thus giving a brighter tooth color. Of late, there are many varieties of products and procedures available that help improve the smile by whitening the teeth. Obviously, better looking teeth and a better smile improve the overall look. Of the many types of tooth-whitening procedures available, the at-home bleaching kit is the most popular choice. Mouth trays, which are aids that are used in tooth whitening, are usually made in just one office visit. Some of these trays are worn for an hour, and others have to be through the night. Dentists charge anywhere between $100 and $600 for tooth-whitening services, and the prices of tooth-whitening kits vary from company to company. Bonding of teeth is done by using a composite resin that is molded onto the teeth in order to change their color and to reshape them. Also, porcelain veneers, which are shell-like facings, can be bonded onto stained teeth. These are used to reshape and lengthen teeth, as well as to whiten them. Toothpastes that offer to whiten teeth are also effective in keeping the teeth cleaner and, therefore, looking whiter. The latest high-tech option in tooth whitening is laser tooth whitening. Needless to say, the tooth-whitening toothpaste is the cheapest option when compared to all these other treatments. It is advisable to first confirm with the dentist the best method. People with joint problems and high sensitivity to hot and cold foods or drinks as well as those with crack lines in their teeth are better advised against tooth whitening. Gum infections should be treated before the procedure is carried out. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should be excluded from bleaching procedures since there is no adequate knowledge regarding the possible ill effects on pregnancy. Tooth Whitening provides detailed information on Tooth Whitening, Professional Tooth Whitening, Laser Tooth Whitening, Tooth Whitening Systems and more.
