Pre-paid SIM Card for Mexico

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Dulaney]John Dulaney Mexico is located in North America and is bordered by the United States at the north, with Central America with Guatemala and Belize at the south. The capital of the country is Mexico City, which is one of the biggest cities in the world. Mexico is also the 11th most populated city, having a population of 108 million people, who mostly speak Spanish. Mexico has a rugged land terrain, limited farmland, with rapidly growing population, and has a series of economic crises. Some of the earliest civilisation in the western Hemisphere has been found to exist in ancient Mexico and Central America. Historically this region is known as Mesoamerica. Mesoamerica referees to the geographic area, culture and traditions of the pre-Columbian civilisations of Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Evidences have shown that people with skills of hunting and gathering existed in Mesoamerica more than 15,000 years ago. The civilisation in Mesoamerica began to appear around 2500 BC, and soon the people found their food source in agriculture which met the needs of the growing number of people. The Nomadic people of Mesoamerica settled down in permanent settlement, since they were not required to travel from one place to another for food any more. People started to devote to architectural and cultural pursuits as their lives revolved more around agriculture and village life, shifting away from a hunting-gathering existence. The culture of Mexico reflects the country’s rich history. With Spain conquering the Aztec Empire in the early 16th century, there were widespread inter-racial marriage between the Spaniards and Native Americans. As late as early 19th century, the population in Mexico comprised of two-thirds of Native Americans. During that period, the racial composition of Mexico was made up of distinct Europeans, who were mainly the Spanish people, and the indigenous populations. This began to change to one made up largely of mestizos-people, who were mainly from mixed Spanish and Native American descent. Presently the Mestizos accounts for 80% of the population in Mexico. The majority of the rivers in Mexico are not navigable and since 1950s, rather than communication links, they have been harnessed for hydroelectric power. One of the most important rivers in Mexico is the Grijalva. It originates in Guatemala, and flows through the Mexican State of Chiapas and empties into the Gulf of Mexico. The other important river is the Usumacinta, which also originates in Guatemala and takes a more easterly route, flowing through Chiapas, joining the Grijalva near the Gulf of Mexico. Southwest of Mexico City on the Balsas River, the Infiernillo dam forms the largest of all the reservoirs in the country. At the time the Spaniards conquered Mexico in the early part of 1500’s, there were many advanced Native American civilisations existing. The Maya was one of the most important civilisations that existed in the southern and southeastern part of what is now Mexico, which included the areas comprised of the present states of Chiapas, Quintana Roo, and Yucatn. The other civilisation was the Aztecs, who dominated Central Mexico and had their capital at the present location of the Mexico City. When the Spaniards conquered the Native American civilisation, they started to control the entire region and called it New Spain. Unlike the British, who settled in North America, the intermarriage between the Spaniards and the Native Americans produced a growing population of mestizos, or people of mixed European and Native American ancestry. The mestizos became the largest ethnic group in the population of Mexico. Most part of the Mexican land is covered by desert vegetation growth, which includes mesquite, cactus, desert scrub, and some grasses. The upper regions have thick forests formed mostly by hardwoods, such as, oak trees, needle-leafed trees such as pine and fir. The low lying area in Mexico is typically covered by rain forests that consist of variety of trees and ferns. Some of the animals that are found in the Central and South American regions are, monkeys, tapirs, and jaguars, which are also found in parts of the Southern Mexico. They are found especially in the rain forest of Chiapas and the southern Pacific coast, where human settlement is scarcely located. Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, is often referred to as a primary city, being a single metropolitan area larger than the next four cities combined. The city has a population of 8,605,239 by the census in the year 2000. Mexico City is the center of activities in economic, political, and cultural resources, which is not seen anywhere in the country. Many of the manufacturing units are located in Mexico City. Since the political power remained with the Federal Government, Mxico City has always dominated the countries political affairs during the 20th century. You will find the fascinating blend of the traditions of the Native Americans and the Spanish colonial influences, in the culture that exists in Mexico. Long before the Spaniards arrived in Mexico, the indigenous people of that country were already developing arts, such as, ceramics, music, poetry, sculpture, and weaving. After Spain conquered Mexico, the creative art started to take a different shape, with a blend of the bright colours of the Native American arts, mixed with the European techniques and religious themes, created an unique combination of hybrid Native American art. There are many churches that you can find in Mexico, built by the Spaniards, with influences of their architectural designs mixed with the handiwork of Native American workers who built and decorated the buildings. Mexico’s economy is highly depended on tourism. Tourism helps Mexicos economy to hold, when other sectors fail to generate the revenue required by those sectors. The government of Mexico has always worked hard to establish the country as a tourist attraction and a cabinet-level body of the government exclusively oversees the improvement of tourist facilities. The numerous beach resorts are the primary tourist spots in Mexico, some of them include, Cancn, an island and resort town just off the Yucatn Peninsula in the State of Quintana Roo, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, and Mazatln, all resort cities on Mexico’s Pacific coast and Los Cabos, a sport fishing and resort center at the end of the peninsula of Baja California in the State of Baja California Sur. If you are taking your cell phone with you to Mexico, you may be concerned about the expenses that you would be incurring in remaining in touch with your business associates, friends and family back home. You would be making local as well as international calls. Expenses are bound to be quite high. Let us examine a couple of scenarios. During the time mobile telephony was a dream, you had gone on such visits to countries abroad. You had to be in touch with your people, especially with the business that you have left back home and have come away on a long deserved holiday. You have been calling up your friends at home and also to your family. You had no option but to use the telephone available in your hotel room. That turned out to be expensive. With the advent of cellular phones, you had taken your cell phone with you on roaming, in your visit abroad. While you were roaming with your phone and you had been making and receiving calls. The charges for these calls, including the incoming ones were considerably high, since these were the calls that you made and received while your cell phone was on roaming. In providing you with the facility to roam with your cell phone in a foreign country, your home service provider has entered into a business contract with the service provider of the country that you are visiting. This contract enables you to use the services of the foreign provider when you roam with your cell phone in that country. Therefore, each time you make a call from your cell phone or receive a call, you are utilising the services of that particular foreign service provider. In such cases, your home service provider pays to the foreign operator each time you are using your cell phone in that foreign land, for either, making a call or receiving a call. This is the reason why you are charged when you are on roaming in a foreign country. Roaming is expensive. A pre-paid SIM card for Mexico will save up to 80% of your call expenses. Here is how it does. When you buy a pre-paid SIM card for Mexico, you get a local number and you are charged at local rates. All your incoming calls are free from any charges, and it matters less where they generate from. You do not pay for roaming charges. You do not have to enter into any service contract with a service provider and you are not going to receive any bill at the end of the month. When you buy a pre-paid SIM card for Mexico, you receive a small talk time credit with it. This enables you to use your cell phone right away when you reach your destination city in Mexico. To replenish your talk time credit, there are recharge coupons or vouchers available in practically any shop in the Mexican cities. These vouchers are available in many denominations and you have the option to buy the value of the credit that you want. Since your calls are pre-paid, you are in control of the expenses that you incur in using your cell phone and that is how you never over-run your budget. For more information regarding the prices of pre-paid SIM card for Mexico, visit www.planetomni.com/FAQ_sim.shtml A Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card is a little smaller than a postage stamp which goes in a slot at the back of your cell phone, accessible as you take off the back cover. It is a printed circuit board, forming the intelligent module in your cell phone. It is a smart card, having microprocessor and memory circuitry and, as the name suggests, holds your identity as a cell phone user. It holds your unique information in form of identifying you, your service plan, the SIM card and your cell phone identity, the International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) and other security details. When you switch on yor phone each time, this information is transmitted to the nearest network tower in the city that you are in. This is checked against the database information, matching them with the ones transmitted. When a match takes place, your cell phone is logged into the network and you are now ready to make or receive calls or send SMS messages. The SIM card also holds your address book, which you use to store the names and phone numbers of the people you frequently get in touch with. It also logs each of your incoming nd outgoing calls and even those calls that you fail to answer. These are logged according to the date and time of the respective calls. You will need a GSM cell phone to make and receive calls when you visit Mexico. If you have a GSM cell phone, it is quite likely that it will work in that country. The United States, Canada and a few other countries in the Americas use 850MHz and 1900MHz as GSM frequency bandwidths. The networks in Mexico operate on 1900MHz GSM frequency band, which is a common bandwidth with that of the United States. Therefore, if you should possess a GSM handset, you can take that along with you and use it with your pre-paid SIM card for Mexico. If you do not have a GSM cell phone, an economical solution would be to rent a phone compatible with the bandwidth of the Mexican networks. If you are a frequent traveller, then you should consider buying a multiple frequency cell phone, so it complies with the network frequency bands of the countries that you visit. For more information on the various models of cell phones and its purchase and renting prices, you may visit www.planetomni.com/FAQ_gsm.shtml Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) is a digital mobile communication technology developed in Europe and is called the second generation (2G) system in mobile telephony. GSM replaces the old analog first generation (1G) system. The technology is used by over 214 countries and has 80% subscribers out of the total mobile users in the world. There are four sets of GSM frequency bands, which are, 850 MHz, 900 MHz, and 1800 MHz and 1900 MHz. The networks in North America, Canada and a few other countries in the Americas, operate on 850MHz and 1900MHz GSM frequency bands, which remain exclusive to this part of the world. Majority of the GSM regions use different frequency bandwidths, which really sets these countries apart from the ones using those exclusive bandwidths. If you would have been travelling to Europe and if you possessed a GSM cell phone, it would have been very unlikely that your cell phone would have worked there, unless you had a multiple frequency cell phone. The GSM technology provides you with the facility of roaming. It is this facility which lets you make calls to people in any part of this world and receive calls from just about anywhere in this planet. Whether you take your cell phone, buy or rent one, you need to make sure that your phone is SIM unlocked. If your GSM cell phone is SIM locked, you will not be able to use your pre-paid SIM card for Mexico or any other SIM card for that matter. Let us look into a typical instance. When you sign a contract with a service provider and one of the clauses in that contract stipulates that you are bound by the contract to use the services of this provider for a definite period of time, the cell phone that you receive from your service provider, which come to you free of cost, is SIM locked. This would mean that you cannot use that cell phone with any other SIM card other than the one received by you from your service provider. This is simply done to ensure that you do not switch on to another service provider while you are still under the obligations of the contract that you have signed. As soon as the contract period is over, your service provider would help you to SIM unlock your phone. You are now free to use any SIM card with your cell phone. Therefore, before you leave for your trip to Mexico, you should look into two aspects. You need to ensure that your phone, if you are buying one or renting, is compatible with the frequency bands in Mexico, and that the phone that you are taking with you is not SIM locked. A pre-paid SIM card for Mexico is affordable and saves you substantially on your cell phone use. With such a SIM card, you pay for your calls as the locals do and all your incoming calls are free. You do not pay any charges for roaming. You do not have to enter into any service agreement and you do not receive any bill at the end of the month. Cell phone use overseas. In 99% of the world the local cellular service standard is called GSM. We use this in the states as well. When combined with a SIM CARD (which usually goes under the battery of the phone) the phone is able to communicate and the SIM CARD also holds the telephone number and memory for pre-paid credit. Rates can be extremely low using this system. For example in 99% of all SIM CARDS incoming calls are free and calls to the states can cost a trifle. Such as, from the UK to the USA 7 cents/minute, from Israel 22 cents, from Australia 27 cents. Yes, USA Dollar cents! There are today even prepaid service providers in the USA offering rates of 10 cents per minute to call anywhere in the US to any type of phone. No contracts, no credit card checks, no bills. Pre-paid always means no minimums no contracts, no obligations. You only pay for the calls made. You’ll need an unlocked GSM tri-band or quadband UNLOCKED phone. Motivating Weight Loss

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By Mary Mason-Shields Over the past several years, I have been high strung in the weight loss game and motivation was never a factor that I considered. Motivating weight loss was so far removed from my mind. Without motivating my weight loss, I was on a roller coaster ride of up and down weight loss and weight gain. It was not until the recent past that I realized I needed motivation to be successful in my quest for losing my unwanted pounds. I have since discovered what was missing from my mission of losing weight and wished that I could have discovered this fact a lot sooner. As usual, I resolved to lose weight again in 2007. I had no idea of what or how I was going to tackle this feat as I had resolved to lose weight for so many years with no results. At the beginning of 2007, I had a doctors appointment that resulted in a startling revelation. I was overweight! (Yeah right) I was about 80 pounds overweight! The feelings that made an appearance were horror, anger, depression and the list goes on and on.Three days after my doctors appointment, my mind was made up I will lose 80 pounds during 2007 one-way or another. I still did not know how I was going to do it. Then my mind went to something I never dreamed of before. I started a fast and my motivation for weight loss was found! I lost fifteen pounds during my five-day fast and I have been losing one to one and one half pounds per week since my fast. The fast motivated me to lose the 80 pounds and the fast gave me the stamina to get through this. I will reach my goal by December 2007. I am not looking for any specific diet plan because I lost the taste for a lot of the foods I was eating before my fast. My fast has helped me learn how to eat healthy. Eating healthy is helping me to lose weight. I eat as low glycemic as I can. I have stopped eating and drinking empty calories. I have added fruits and vegetables to my daily diet. Without the fruit I have put into my diet, I would be experiencing the weakness that usually accompanies a diet regimen. Several reasons prohibited me from losing weight. One reason was the weakness that accompanied dieting after a short while. Another reason was the fact that I had poisoned my mind into thinking if I did not eat, I would get a terrible headache. Of course, each time I tried to lose weight, I would get a severe headache. Also, whenever I attempted to lose weight, I would get so nervous. All of these situations were prevalent whenever I tried to lose weight and I know now they were just excuses. I have been motivated to lose weight, motivated to eat healthily and motivated to incorporate fruits into my weight loss regimen. From all I have learned, fruits are the best source of energy. I have stopped drinking diet cola and I drink only water. Before I found the motivation to lose weight, I would only drink about two glasses of water per week, if I drank any water at all. I preferred to drink diet cola. Now that I have gotten myself motivated to lose weight, there is a great possibility that I will step up my weight loss regimen and reach my goal before December 2007. Pick the Image; Identifiable Marketing

An example of this “binding” might be recalled by ads like, “Tuesday is Red’s Tamale Day.” This not only ties a food product to a particular day, it also makes a declarative statement. It’s like saying, “This is truth.” It also cleverly assists the meal planner in the decision making process. Tying your image to something that related is a way to make the whole thing more easily remembered. If your image is high quality, don’t run ads during sleazy shows. Not only is the association not good for your image, it’s likely that those listening, reading or watching are not as interested in quality to begin with (the wrong audience). If your image is one of delivering security or control of one’s life, support other services that also deliver the same values - and tie the value delivered to your product/service. An example might be to sponsor a burglary prevention booklet, show or interview that also runs ads for your burglary alarm systems. Give away nutrition information with your healthy products - and do it in a way that’s consistent and identifiable. If Wednesday is your slow day, offer your “added value” every Wednesday - and announce it. Do anything positive that enhances the image that you live under. Remember, the more that what you do engenders positive emotions, the better will be the reactions to you and your product/service. If you’re in paint, paint a church, for free. Do things to enhance and implant your company’s image on the minds and hearts of your market. Another way to accomplish this is to relate your product/service to a known value. An example would be, “Our bottled water is like drinking from a mountain stream,” or, “Getting a bouquet from us is like that first flower from your first love,” or, “Our meals are like Grandma’s best, just for you,” or, “Music from our store will rekindle your best memories.” Daniel Wadleigh is a nationally published marketing consultant and has programs for start-up and existing businesses including effective web sites, e-mail/database, other non-internet ways to drive them to your website, and low cost ways to get more new customers. The Big Question for Any Relationship

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Neil Millar Ive got one big question. Its a question that will make everything in your relationship completely worthwhile even the bits that get on your nerves and cause you head and heart aches Its the type of question you wouldnt ordinarily ask - but thats okay, because you didnt know to ask it until now! For most people, relationships dont go smoothly. Undercurrents, disputes, emotions, periods, children, habits, morals, values, work hours and workloads, these are just a few of the kind of things that can cause conflicts. But what if I told you something What if I told you its not about the issue? My philosophy is that no issue is bigger than the relationship. If were honest its never really the issue that causes the problem. What causes the problem is the emotions behind the issue. And what causes the emotions? What causes the our relationship conflicts is, at the core, very rarely the issue thats in front of us now. This may seem hard to take at first so let me explain a little more. When we react to something someone says or does we are in effect re-acting - behaving in way we acted before. This is what we might call learned behaviour. We may have learned that behaviour in a number of ways: watching our parents behaviour in a relationship, seeing it on TV, our own experience etc. Are these learned re-actions appropriate in all circumstances? Id say no. A few days ago my partner made a sweeping statement that well to be frank, pushed all my buttons. What she said was like a red rag to a bull. Thankfully I caught myself before any real damage was done. I immediately knew there was nothing wrong with what she had said, or how she had said it. But the words she used, reminded me of someone else and a pattern of behaviour I ran with them. This is the type of conditioned, unconscious, response Im talking about. If your partner presses your buttons does it mean the relationship bad? Conflict doesnt have to mean the relationship is bad. It can indicate that you, or your partner, or most probably both of you, on occasions, have some things that you need to become more aware of. If you can begin to view your relationship as a playground to work these things out, the relationship can become a whole new arena of fun and games. And this is where my question can really help My question will get you thinking about the how you can help yourself and your relationship become a harmonious haven rather than a gladiators ring. It will help you be a more understanding person for your partner and it will help to spare you from saying things youll regret later. The question is profoundly simple. But when you ask it and use the outcome effectively you begin to take your relationship onto a new level. Things that used to cause you problems will vanish. And when new things come up theyll have very little power. When you find your buttons have been pushed the question you have to ask is this: Whats this really about? Simple isnt it. But it takes you right to the heart of the matter. As I said, relationship conflict is rarely about an issue and more to do with the conditioned responses. By asking my question what you do is take the conditioned behaviour and transform it into the conscious. In effect what begins to happen is this: you move beyond the past conditioned response that causes conflict and are left with the current issue. This question allows you to understand whats going on inside you. Knowing this means you can then bypass the past and deal with what is currently before you. But what if you dont want to move beyond the past? Then I guess youll continue to re-act it out until the pain and loss get the better of you. My very good wishesNeil I hope that my newsletter, on creating a better life, will help you create a life you deserve. How Outdoor Ceiling Fans Can Create a Gentle Breeze and Keep the Bugs Away

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Amy-Jo Strutt As cities get larger and busier, more people are turning to their backyards as their personal oasis. So why not install outdoor ceiling fans for a number of reasons. You can sit out on a warm evening and enjoy a gentle breeze from your overhead outdoor ceiling fan. They are an excellent way to keep cool and stay outside much later. Another great reason for an outdoor ceiling fan is that work well to keep the bugs away. The gentle breeze created by the blades ensures wasps and mosquitoes go someplace else. Warning! Dont try and install an indoor ceiling fan outside. Outdoor ceiling fans are specially designed to withstand, heat, dirt, dust and moisture created by rain or humidity. You will want to ensure your ceiling fan is constructed of stainless steel to prevent rusting. Also ensure that it is waterproof. A number of the leading manufacturers such as Hampton Bay, Emerson, Casablanca and Hunter make a full range of both outdoor and indoor ceiling fans. A popular choice for an outdoor ceiling fan is a tropical design. If you dont live by the ocean, that doesnt mean you cant create a tropical feeling in your own back yard. Bamboo blades on your fan can really help create the look and feel of the tropics even if you live in the city. You can choose from a number of blade designs and sizes. The larger the area you are trying to cover, the longer the blades you will need. Most manufacturers have will provide blade to area calculations for you so that you get exactly what you need. You can also buy outdoor ceiling fans that come with a light fixture. Keep in mind that any sort of lighting will attract bugs. If you do get a fan with a light fixture, you will want to buy one with a dimmer switch so that you can create a softer lighting mood outside. You can shop online for the design you want or you can shop in person at your local lighting store or home decorating store. Bridal Showers

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Elsie Gilbert Bridal showers are a great tradition that is part of the wedding process. Traditionally, bridal showers are rather large affairs where some, if not all, of the women involved in the wedding planning get together to offer advice and presents to the bride to be. Bridal Showers The Basics Bridal showers do not need to be fancy affairs; in fact modern trends suggest that bridal showers are becoming more intimate affairs where the price per head is higher, but so is the quality! There is no set time that bridal showers should take place, but generally they occur towards the beginning of the planning process. This is a good idea as the bride will have the opportunity to gain advice on how to go about her wedding plans. Bridal Showers Main Considerations One of the first things that you need to consider when arranging bridal showers is what the main purpose of your gathering will be. For example, you may want to arrange a bridal shower that is relatively close to the big day and focuses on pampering and relaxing with the girls! Others opt for bridal showers that are towards the beginning of the planning process so that they can ask for help and advice. This type of bridal shower, whilst offering the bride a huge information gathering opportunity, is a little more like a board meeting than a relaxing break. Try to decide early on how many people will be attending your bridal shower and what sort of celebration they would enjoy. If you have several groups of friends that you do not feel will all be catered for in one event, you could consider multiple bridal showers. This way, you can have a more traditional type bridal shower early on in the process as well as a more relaxing pre-wedding event. Bridal Showers Novel Ideas Why not indulge yourself with a sport or hobby that you really enjoy, for example you could go horse trekking for the day, or hit the mall! Try to resist the temptation of attempting to please everyone. As a bridal shower is often the first things planned, it provides a great opportunity to work out who is likely to take the organizational lead, and for you as the bride to stake your claim as the main decision maker. If you find that you allow other to make the decision about the bridal shower you may find that the same people continue to take the lead in other aspects of your wedding planning. State your position early on; it will help avoid arguments, later on in the process. Bridal showers are, by definition, all about the bride so stay focused on pleasing yourself! Elsie Gilbert offers great insights to all different types of wedding ceremonies, wedding styles, wedding accessories. Finding Mr. Wrong: Using Background Checks to Say What Your Gut Feels

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Tony Cohn It happens to all of us, one of our best girlfriends hooks with a total loser and falls for him, hard. No matter how hard you try to convince your friend to ditch her poorly chosen boyfriend, it is often hard to tell her exactly why you don’t trust or like the new guy without causing an argument-think K-Fed and Britney. So what can you do about this guy whom you know is just plain trouble? In the past, you have handled this situation by trying to beg your friend to dump him or just letting your friend find out on her own that her boyfriend is a loser. Often, your friend may perceive that you are attacking her new boyfriend without cause and your relationship may suffer. Ultimately, this may lead to your friend cutting off all contact with you and her peer group. All of these points must be taken into account before talking to your friend about her bad boyfriend. Unfortunately, without any more evidence than your gut feeling, it may be unreasonable to expect your friend to break up with her boyfriend merely on your urging. However, with the emergence of online investigative web sites, you now have a solid weapon to use against bad boyfriends everywhere: the background check. Background checks are a great way to determine if your gut feeling is just that or if you have a right to not like your friend’s new guy. Though commonly thought of as a tool only for law enforcement officials, employers and other organizations, background checks are currently being used more by people who just want to know a little more about the pasts of other people. One of the best features of background checks is that they can be conducted anonymously, thus, your girlfriend will never even know that you wanted to learn more about her new guy. What exactly can you find out about someone by performing a background check? Surprisingly, a lot more information than you may have thought. In about a minute, most quality background check organizations can produce a report that gives you a pretty good portrait of someone’s past including: Age: Is he telling the truth?Address(es) and Phone: Has he gone from city to city?Real Property Ownership: Does he own his home or does he still live with mom?Aliases: Does he go by any other names?Possible Relatives: How come he never told you about his twin brother?Death Index: Could he possibly have stolen someone’s identity?Marriages and Divorces: He’s been married five times before? Is his divorce final?National Criminal Records: Does he have a criminal history that he doesn’t want anyone to know about? To conduct a background check, all you need is his name, phone number or social security number. Once you have collected this information, you can visit a people search web site like PeopleFinders.com to conduct your background check. Hopefully, with the results of your background check, you will be able to better help your friend see the true nature of her boyfriend, whether that is good or bad, with more than a gut feeling to back you up. Also, your friend will surely appreciate the time you took to carefully research her new boyfriend’s past before passing judgment. How To Support Friends and Loved Ones Through an Abusive Relationship

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By Annie Kaszina This is a question that comes up a lot. Its hugely frustrating, as well as difficult and painful to watch someone you care about struggle in the quicksand of an abusive relationship. Its frustrating because we can see all the things that they cant. Wed love to help them which probably means getting them to adopt the solution that we know is right. But they dont see it, and theyre not going to do it. Its difficult because you start to feel like youre caught up in Groundhog Day. They reach the point of leaving, they may well even leave and then the whole thing goes around again, and again. Maybe the same partner, maybe a different one. But you hear the same story again and again. In the end your emotional investment wears you out. You end up feeling resentful towards them for what theyre putting you through. Its painful because watching someone turn into a shadow of their former self is tragic. All the more so when there are children who are also suffering. Witnessing the pain of someone you care about and not being able to make it go away, really taxes us. So how do we support them? First we need to be clear about the distinction between helping and supporting them. We cannot help them, i.e. move them on even so much as a millimetre. What we can do is be there for them. That doesnt mean making ourselves available to listen 100% of the time. What it does mean is simply acknowledging and respecting their right to make choices, or else stick with the situation. However disastrous it may appear from the outside, they are making the best choices they can at the time. They already feel pretty bad about themselves; your continued respect may make more of a difference than you could imagine. Second, we mustnt give up on them. There is a very human temptation, at some point, to say Whatever, and walk away. Abusers create a void around their victim that leaves the victim even more dependent. Its very easy to end up becoming irritated with the victim. When you do, youre actually colluding with the abuser. If an abused loved one cant hold on to the thought of life beyond their relationship, then that is something important we can do for them. This simply means believing and trusting that they will come out the other side of this. Even if neither of you can predict the timescale. Third, we can hold onto the knowledge of who they truly are. Over time, living with a self-appointed King of the Jungle reduces them to feeling little better than a cockroach. We can hold and remind them of- their gifts, their qualities, their uniqueness, their lovableness, until they are able to do it for themselves. Our vision may be the resource that starts them on their journey to recovery. It doesnt even have to be a major holding operation on our part. Remember, abuse leaves its victims starving because it systematically closes down any channel of nourishment. Often, by opening up a channel we offer them more sustenance than we could possibly imagine. To a friend of mine who has suffered hugely at the hands of a homicidally brutal partner and lost sight of herself, I sent a list of the blessings that she did not see. The list is incredibly empowering for her and she treasures it. It reads like this: 1) You are blessed with good and loving friends. 2) You inspire great love in those around you. 3) You have two wonderful children - maybe not easy, but definitely wonderful. 4) You have enormous strength. 5) You have a vast reservoir of talents. 6) You are an extraordinarily loving and supportive person. 7) You have a talent for creating beauty. 8) You have an extraordinarily attractive personality 9) You have formidable energy 10) All this and there is still, I’d guess, about another 85% of capacity that you are currently not able to access efficiently. My friend is unique and gifted. So are all our friends and loved ones. Another persons list may be different, but it will be no less extraordinary. We are all uniquely gifted and wonderful. Yet we may need to have our eyes opened to this fact. Repeatedly. We support others best when we offer them a valid, empowering vision of themselves. We support ourselves when we do the self-same thing for ourselves. (C) Annie Kaszina 2004 Annie Kaszina Specialist Women’s Empowerment Coach and NLP Practitioner. Always use “hot” oils in extremely weak dilution of less than one percent for skin application. Commonly used “hot” essential oils known to have the potential to cause, skin irritation, include: basil (Ocimum basilicum), bergamot (Citrus bergamia), birch (Betula lenta), black pepper (Piper nigrum), cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum), clove (Eugenia aromatica), ginger (Zingiber officinale), expressed (cold pressed from peel) oils of lime, lemon, orange and grapefruit (Citrus limetta, limonum, sinensis and paradisi), lemongrass (Cymbopogon citrates), oregano (Origanum compactum), Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris), Siberian, balsam or silver fir (Abies siberica, alba, balsamea), thyme (Thymus vulgaris), wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) and in some cases, tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia), ylang ylang (Cananga odorata) and peppermint (Mentha piperita). If any of these essential oils is applied in a dilution of carrier oil on the skin and a hot, red irritation occurs this is the result of a burn to the skin that requires immediate attention. Always have a vegetable carrier oil like Pure Light Coconut Oil or Jojoba available to apply onto the skin in such cases! Apply a carrier oil will have an immediate effect of calming the skin irritation. Do not wash or rinse the area with water as this will drive the essential oils further into the skin and increase, not diminish discomfort. The Mighty Marketing Brochure

Friday, November 16th, 2007

By Neil Sagebiel “Brochure” is French, and it comes from brocher, meaning to stitch. According to The American Heritage Dictionary, a brochure is “a small booklet or pamphlet, often containing promotional material or product information.” Accurate, yes. And also incomplete. For one thing, brochures arent always small. Sometimes theyre quite large. As for brochure contents, they vary greatly depending on the situation. A brochure definitely can be more than a pamphlet or small booklet, coming in all shapes, sizes and a range of folds. While brochures are found practically everywhere — used by businesses and organizations of all types and sizes — theyre not the answer to all communication needs. Nor are they obsolete due to the Web. What Can a Brochure Do? Actually, a lot. First, determine your purpose or objectives. Will your brochure generate sales or leads? Fulfill inquiries, support the sales force or be displayed at the point of sale? Will you use your brochure as a direct-mail piece or aleave-behind? The brochure can do one or all of the above with careful planning. Here are some more functions of the brochure: Provide product and service informationSupport trade shows and conventionsProvide news (about products, services, company, industry)Build company identityEducate prospects and customers What are you trying to accomplish? Once you decide, youre ready to start putting your brochure together. What Goes in a Brochure? Following are some common subjects for three areas brochures cover most: products, services and corporate or organization capabilities. IntroductionProductsServicesFeatures Benefits How It Works Markets/AudiencesApplications Specifications Testimonials FAQ Company historyCall to actionClient listMission statement or business philosophyAwardsContact info Keep It Simple Although a brochure can do a lot, keep it simple. Zero in on your audience and purpose, and the rest will fall into place. Consider the format, page size and how the brochure will fold. Decide on visuals, fonts, colors, paper stock and other design characteristics. As for copy, put a strong headline on the cover. Capture the right tone, and make sure copy has a logical flow. As a rule, keep sections short, incorporating plenty of subheads. Its always wise to include a call to action. What do you want people to do after they read the brochure? Finally, make sure you know how your brochure fits into your overall marketing program.
